Erasme, A web documentary on the textile industry in the Lyon Metropolis

Within Brochier Soieries, Cédric Brochier collaborates with numerous contemporary artists, alongside emerging designers and renowned couturiers such as Elisabeth de Senneville, Christine Phung, and Hervé Léger.

Fashion designer Olivier Lapidus is passionate about new technologies. It takes little to convince Cédric to experiment with the production of new materials. The two men develop several concepts that blend fashion and technology: dresses made from lyophilized silk particles propelled onto the body, 3D woven dresses without seams. The wedding dress with Jacquard patterns using optical fibers presented during the spring-summer 2000 haute couture fashion show was a sensation. The technological research on weaving optical fiber led to the patenting of the Lightex® process in 2003.

In 2014, Thierry Mugler approached Brochier Technologies to create his luminous dress featured in the advertisement for the Alien perfume.

L’article
Erasme, A web documentary on the textile industry of the Lyon Metropolis

At the turn of the 1880s, the emergence of haute couture and the arrival of new materials prompted silk manufacturers to once again reinvent their profession.

Employed by Lyon silk manufacturers, Jean Brochier started his own business in 1890 and founded Maison Brochier, leveraging his knowledge of the factory’s operations. He produced “novelty” fabrics that were then sold to wholesalers and specialized department stores.

After four years of military service and four years of mobilization during the 1914-1918 war, Joseph Brochier, son of Jean, took over the family business J. Brochier & Fils, which he expanded and focused on fabrics known as “high novelty.” He became a supplier to leading couturiers such as Jean Patou, Jeanne Lanvin, and Gabrielle Chanel.

Joseph was at the heart of a couture industry where 350,000 workers and 150,000 accessory artisans were employed. The atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties was euphoric. Women were becoming more emancipated. While their daytime attire shortened and simplified, eveningwear became more extravagant. These were the changes that silk manufacturers had to anticipate and stay ahead of.

Soon, collections were exported internationally, and offices were opened in London, New York, Sydney, and Melbourne.

To learn more, visit the Musée Soieries Brochier.

L’article <a

The Musée Soieries Brochier presents, starting November 10, 2023, the exhibition “A Collection of Patterned Velvets: Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier.”

The story begins in 2022 when Cédric Brochier was approached by Liliane Gaubin to create a silk scarf for the 125th anniversary of the Alliance Française of Chicago. During their initial meeting, Mrs. Gaubin inquired about the origin of some fabric samples she noticed on the large wall covered with rebracks in the office. She believed she recognized Bianchini Férier fabrics that her mother, Catherine Gaubin, had been purchasing in Buenos Aires since 1971 for the tailoring of haute couture dresses.

Liliane Gaubin possesses a collection of over 1,000 dresses that belonged to her mother. She invited Mr. Brochier to Chicago to explore this collection and identify pieces that might have been made from the fabrics of his house. During their subsequent meeting in Chicago a few months later, five dresses in Bianchini Férier’s patterned velvet were authenticated. Mrs. Gaubin then decided to donate them to the museum.

This exceptional encounter sparked the desire to bring together dresses made from the silk velvets of Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier to showcase the fabrics that made them renowned. Research was initiated in the United States to find other dresses made from the fabrics of the houses. Eleven dresses were discovered from San Francisco to Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego, including creations by Chanel, Valentino, Michael Casey, James Galanos, Caroline Charles, and Guy Laroche.

We invite you to discover this collection of patterned velvet dresses by Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier, exhibited from November 10, 2023, at the Musée Soieries Brochier, as well as at the Atelier de Soierie and in our boutique at 21 Rue du Boeuf.

L’article <a

The Musée Soieries Brochier will present the exhibition “A Collection of Patterned Velvets, Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier” starting November 10, 2023.

The story begins in 2022 when Cédric Brochier was contacted by Liliane Gaubin to create a silk scarf for the 125th anniversary of the Alliance Française of Chicago. During their first meeting, Mrs. Gaubin asked Mr. Brochier about the origins of some fabric samples she noticed on the large wall covered with rebracks in the office. She believed she recognized Bianchini Férier fabrics that her mother, Catherine Gaubin, had purchased in Buenos Aires starting in 1971 for haute couture dresses.

Liliane Gaubin has a collection of over 1,000 dresses that belonged to her mother. She invited Mr. Brochier to explore this collection in Chicago to identify pieces that might have been made from the house’s fabrics. During their meeting a few months later in Chicago, five dresses made from Bianchini Férier’s patterned velvet were authenticated. Mrs. Gaubin then decided to donate them to the museum.

From this exceptional encounter arose the desire to bring together dresses made from the silk velvets of Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier to showcase the fabrics that made their reputation. Searches were conducted in the United States to find other dresses made from the house’s fabrics. Eleven dresses were thus uncovered from San Francisco to Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego, including creations by Chanel, Valentino, Michael Casey, James Galanos, Caroline Charles, and Guy Laroche.

Drawing takes center stage in Lyon with a double event dedicated to Thomas Henriot, offering a sensitive journey to the four corners of the world.

In Lyon, the new Houg Gallery is hosting, until October 21, drawings of Santiago de Cuba, Havana, and the Harlem neighborhood in New York, patiently created in situ by Thomas Henriot (born in 1980) during his travels around the world. With a firm and meticulous hand, Henriot captures urban scenes and parks devoid of inhabitants. Simultaneously, the Bullukian Foundation presents a juxtaposition of his large panoramic piece, depicting a Japanese temple and woven by the Brochier workshops in Lyon, alongside Camille Chastang’s (born in 1994) flower paintings. This dual event offers a poetic and melancholic journey where nature is omnipresent.

L’article <a
