The Musée Soieries Brochier will present the exhibition “A Collection of Patterned Velvets, Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier” starting November 10, 2023.

The story begins in 2022 when Cédric Brochier was contacted by Liliane Gaubin to create a silk scarf for the 125th anniversary of the Alliance Française of Chicago. During their first meeting, Mrs. Gaubin asked Mr. Brochier about the origins of some fabric samples she noticed on the large wall covered with rebracks in the office. She believed she recognized Bianchini Férier fabrics that her mother, Catherine Gaubin, had purchased in Buenos Aires starting in 1971 for haute couture dresses.

Liliane Gaubin has a collection of over 1,000 dresses that belonged to her mother. She invited Mr. Brochier to explore this collection in Chicago to identify pieces that might have been made from the house’s fabrics. During their meeting a few months later in Chicago, five dresses made from Bianchini Férier’s patterned velvet were authenticated. Mrs. Gaubin then decided to donate them to the museum.

From this exceptional encounter arose the desire to bring together dresses made from the silk velvets of Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier to showcase the fabrics that made their reputation. Searches were conducted in the United States to find other dresses made from the house’s fabrics. Eleven dresses were thus uncovered from San Francisco to Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego, including creations by Chanel, Valentino, Michael Casey, James Galanos, Caroline Charles, and Guy Laroche.

We invite you to discover this collection of patterned velvet dresses by Brochier Soieries and Bianchini Férier, exhibited from November 10, 2023, at the Musée Soieries Brochier, as well as at the Atelier de Soierie and in our boutique at 21 Rue du Boeuf.
